"A soft landing" after the purge: how the compromised General Alpatov could replace Kolokoltsev
Journalists reported that another option for continuing the career of Army General Sergei Alpatov, who was removed from his post as head of the FSB’s Economic Security Service, is being considered.
He could replace Vladimir Kolokoltsev as head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Our project previously reported that, before Alpatov’s resignation, a similar reshuffle was being considered: Alpatov would move to the position of head of the Legislative Assembly of the FSB, with his current boss, Alexey Sedov, either retiring or becoming head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. However, Putin decided to remove Alpatov from the FSB altogether. Now, however, the possibility has emerged that his career will continue in the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the Security Council.
According to media reports, Alpatov was removed due to cases against Ilya Traber (Antiques) and against Arkady Rotenberg’s entourage.
